"Homo sacer"

Definition:

"Homo sacer"

A status under Roman law of one who may be killed and yet not sacrificed. This is to say, their death can pass without recognition or mourning.

What now seems to us an inconceivable concept was applied to slaves and others considered "non human"

However, can't help but be reminded of the gross number of non-recognised deaths occurring across our planet on a daily basis.
